What to Expect...

Prior to your visit:

Acupuncture is an inter-active process.  Prior to coming in for treatment, it is helpful that you come with an open mind and a picture of what health means to you.  Express any concerns you may have and be sure to ask as many questions as you feel you need to ask to be comfortable

During your visit:

You will be asked about the illness, injury, or pain you are experiencing.  Be prepared to explain the onset of symptoms, how long it has been going on, if it is intermittent, and what other therapies you have attempted.  Your pulse may be taken as part of the preliminary exam and questions asked about your diet, activity level, and factors that may be contributing to you current state.  Be prepared for an hour long visit to include an exam and treatment in addition to the consultation.  Many times treatment and consultation can take less time, especially if you are coming in your your 2nd or more treatment.

After your visit:

After treatment, you should allow time for the treatment to take effect.  This means to rest physically, mentally, and emotionally.  Drink extra water and abstain from alcohol and other stimulants.  Do any physical exertion for the day before coming in for treatment.  It is not unusual to feel a little groggy or spacey after an acupuncture treatment, especially after the first treatment.
